Donald William HIRSCH was born on 2 Oct 1912 in rural St. Edward, Boone County, NE.  Donald was the third of the ten children born to Fred and Ella Hirsch, in between Gerald and Sally (Marcella).  .

Donald married Mildred Kathryn STOVIE on 12 Aug 1936 in Omaha, Douglas Co, NE at St. Peter's Catholic Church.   Donald  worked as a farm hand and met Mildred Stovie who was working as a school teacher in a one room rural school near Newman Grove, NE.  They met at a barn dance.

The couple married and moved to Omaha where their first child Myrna was born.  Donald then worked as a carpenter out of the Omaha Carpenters union hall, but jobs were scarce, so he soon moved the family to California where he obtained work with the Department of War during WW II.

They lived in a trailer and moved multiple times as the jobs required, finally ending up in El Cerrito, CA where Donald was working at Oakland Army Base on a new APO post office building.  He was killed on 19 August 1945 when the APO post office building he was working on collapsed.  Mildred moved the family back to Nebraska and Donald was buried in St Edward, NE.
